What's su-gar?

Mood: disoriented bc I woke up at 3:18 am
Location: really chill coffee shop by hotel that plays French music
Reading: Einstein's Dreams...which Jane doesn't like when I read aloud

So we've been here for three days now. I'm not sure if the others are still culture shocked but I feel like we've been here for weeks already. Our hotel, Dong-wu, is run by the Suzhou University and seems to be frequented by foreigners regularly.

The plane trip here was mostly uneventful. Our flight to Chicago felt like it was on a remote controlled plane piloted by a toddler....which didn't take off for 2 hours bc the toddler needed a nap. On the 14 hr flight to Shanghai I sat next to a really large man who slept with his mouth open and watched "Fool's Gold" on repeat. I finished Ishmael, Jane slept, Zach watched "College Road Trip" excessively, and Adam watched the bad inflight Chinese kung fu movie.

Yesterday we went exploring, went to Suzhou Museum, and walked for ever to Renmin Lu, a pedestrian-only shopping district. Needless to say, our group is getting plenty of stares. A guard at the museum attempted conversation with me. He ended up thinking I was from New York and a huge Knicks fan.

Today was our first day of class. We worked on pronunciations the whole 3 hours. The second teacher speaks a Chinese-English combination that I guess only I could decipher. I can't imagine what everyone else was thinking.

We visited my grandparents after that and of course my grandma showered us in snacks, hugs, photo ops.

Will try to upload pictures later.

Chinglish Report:
"Square Roundness"
-a store sign

"This notebook is able to bring about comfortable writing feel for you."

Dumb Things Zach Has Said:
"It's somewhre between 'far' and 'mon' [man]"
-explaining long A pronunciation

"Ni hao, girl, ni hao"

"Is everybody in Tibet Muslim?"

"Why is China so big?"

"What's su-gar?"
-reading the Eng side of an Eng-Chinese dictionary

Things Jane Has Yelled at Me About:

"Cindy, there's poop in the toilet."

"Is that your hair on the wall?"

^^She's actually really mad at me at this moment bc I threw dough balls at her and threatened to fill her mouth with them while she slept ^_^
